  1. Well that was interesting. Like the setting for this mystery, it doesn't get much better than a creepy old castle. And it looks like Velma will be getting an interesting story arc. I feel like she's often underused, so this will be a nice change. It's also good they're using a more traditional monster this time around, it's always good to get back to basics. All in all looking forward to it.

    I am a little tired of the WNSD theme song being used so often. I'd really like to see them create an updated version of the SDWAY theme. Which would be more fitting since these movies are more SDWAY inspired than WNSD.

  3. It sort of looks like they're trying to cram in too much story. Like okay, Velma's got her family castle/curse, and on its own that sounds like a pretty substantial mystery. They could come off of one mystery, then while relaxing at home Velma gets the letter informing her of the inheritance. Then you could have the gang arrive, find out about the spooky folklore and have Velma sort of go mad, maybe feel the need to "finish" the experiment (caused by hypnosis? she IS prone). Then have monster hijinkies and all that jazz.

    Here though.... I mean, Shaggy and Scooby in an eating contest in a village somewhere, then Old Iron Face shows up and curses them (literally Old Iron Face, one of their early SDWAY villains if I recall correctly - the mask is identical), then there's a train and a Mystery Caravan and suspicious local villagers. Then a brief Velma appearance. It doesn't sound like a focused story, which it very easily could be. Unless they pull the whole "Velma went to do something science for a few months, we miss her, let's go visit" gig that they pulled in the WNSD DTV "Scooby Doo! in Where's My Mummy?", none of the other gimmicks shown in the trailer necessarily need to be there, bar the suspicious villagers, which are a staple in any Frankenstein-esque monster movie. But that's my take on it. Maybe it'll all come together.

  4. I'm looking forward to this. Too bad they couldn't write Madelyn into this movie. The concept of Velma inheriting an old family fortune could have been a great second appearance for her. They could have given her another flaw: jealousy. They could have created tension between the Dinkley sisters over a mutual interest in Shaggy or they could have made Madelyn jealous that Velma is inheriting the bulk of the estate while that dead relative could only remember her as 'Velma's sister' but not remember her name. Much like what Luigi goes through in the Super Mario games. Everybody in those games loves Mario but can't remember who Luigi is.

  5. @Plush - I think you may be right in the first paragraph you've written. Let's not forget that trailers show only brief fragments of movies.

    I actually think that Velma DOES get hypnotised (or goes nuts :P) because:
    a) one of the characters in the trailer says something like "Velma now INSANE" (with the emphasis on the last word) - then we see Velma looking like in the screenshot above;
    b) the gang is shown looking for clues (at least I think so) without her;
    c) I don't think that, in her normal state of mind, she really would happily scream "It's alive!" (I guess she means a monster);
    d) near the end of the trailer, when Shaggy says their work is done, Velma replies with only two words: "Not quite"; however, the look on her face and the tone of her voice are menacing enough to scare Shaggy and Scooby.

    That said, I'm all excited for this movie! 😀

  7. @Carson - I do remember watching the two episodes featuring The Three Stooges, mainly because they were two of the few cases when Velma, not Daphne, was the damsel in distress. As for The Three Stooges themselves, I found them funny but I'm not as attached to them as you seem to be. 🙂
