This week’s question is “Would you watch a all scooby network?”. In case you haven’t heard, FOX is considering doing a all Simpsons network. Do you think this would work for Scooby? Or would it get old after a month or two?

I fall on the latter. Despite all of Scooby’s spinoffs, I think it would get boring pretty quickly.

  1. I would love to have an all Scooby network so I could watch Scooby anytime I wanted. At the same time, I probably wouldn't watch it that much, and since I have most of the DVDs that have been released, I still have the ability to watch Scooby anytime I want. If they did an all Scooby network, I think Scooby would become less popular because he'd be in everyone's face 24/7 and that might ruin future spin-off series and movies. So I'd opt for no Scooby network!

  2. That's a good point, and while these are totally different beasts, but what about the golf channel or the nfl network? Those don't seem to have hurt those brands.
Warner bros. Could bring out all of that stuff that we all wish was on dvd like the blair witch parody.

With all of the series (which are still coming), the 16 DTV's(and more on the way), and the 4 live-action movies(and hopefully more on the way), I think it could work.

  3. I say go in between and have all cartoon series that began with Hanna-Barbera on a channel. Although I think that's already been done with Boomerang (sort of), it would be fun to watch old 60s and 70s cartoons and their newer incarnations all the time, if only for nostalgia's sake.

What we really need is a new Cartoon Network. You know, one that ACTUALLY shows cartoons and cartoon-based films, instead of live-action Nicklodean-style stuff?

  4. This is an interesting question in that because there's so many Scooby DVDs out there that if there was a Scooby network on 24/7, it would get boring after a while.

However(and I don't know if this would even be a workable option), what about doing an all Scooby network for maybe a short period of time each year.

For example: since October's coming up, and Halloween is at the end of the month, why not have a channel that's all Scooby, but only for maybe a week or so the week of Halloween?

A lot of these temporary channels have been on XM and Sirius Satellite Radio over the years, and they seem to work pretty well, so why not something like that but with Scooby Doo?

  5. I think the thing you have to remember is that it wouldn't be 24 hours though.
As we all know (all to well >:) ) they have to do at least 2-4 hours of paid programing, which doesn't sound like much but works out to 4-8 episodes or one DTV. That extra time off, and with all of the new content would make it so it would be a little while before you see the samething again.

In the case of the simpsons if they stopped at 500 episodes, which breaks down to 250 hours of tv, I think they say it would take 10 and a half days to see an episode twice.

To do a all scooby network it I think they would have to wait at least 3 more years.
By that time we should have at least 3 more DTV's and, hopefully, 26-60 more episodes.

@Adam, that is a good idea as well.

  6. I would not want a Scooby-Doo network. There just isn't enough of the series to support an entire network, even if you did include the Scrappy era episodes. Plus, most old school fans have seen it all or even own it all on DVD, or can download it off the net. It would be Scooby-overload in no time.

I suppose if they were to release the nine or so "lost episodes" that never aired along with everything else, that would be an acceptable tradeoff for me. Not that the channel would last long after that.

For now I think SD is better off having a large portion of airtime dedicated to it by CN or Boomerang, and then WB should focus on making good movies or seasons and taking their time. Give SD a break for a while, and then bring it back with new (and well written) stuff. I think there will always be a fan base for it, so they don't have to worry about people losing interest between seasons.
