Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! The Complete Series Review

What to say? What to say? Hands down these are the best episodes of
Scooby, even season 3, which technically isn’t season 3 but still kind
of is. I remember watching some of these episodes on cartoon network, VHS
tapes, and a few years after that on WB after school. The James Gelsey books hooked me but these episodes reeled me in for good!

But since we all know how good the series is I’ll just stick to the
packaging and the features.

But first I have to say, I wasn’t able to pick up the first 2 seasons
set that came out a few years ago, $55 for 25 episodes at Target
wasn’t an amount I was willing to pay, so while I have seen the
episodes, the bonus features that are here are all new to me so I’ll
be reviewing them as well.

Now the packaging: as SpiderScooby said in his review and as can be
viewed in photos, the set comes in the Mystery Machine with the back
lifting open revealing the 8 discs. I was seriously scared I was going to rip the discs apart as they’re held in thin glossy cardboard slip cases with flimsy strips of cardboard in between each disc. The wheels move making for a good toy for the youngin’s, though I wouldn’t advise it for fear of them breaking it.
The Shaggy and Scooby figures in the front seat look great, though it
would be nice if you could move their arms and/or heads.
Other then that my only complaint is that I wish those front doors
opened up to give you a look inside. 10 out of 10.

Now the features: Disc 2: The Ultimate Scooby Fan was amazing for me,
seeing that Scott Innes and Scott Jeralds are really fans is great to
know. It makes me appreciate their work on the franchise even more knowing
they love it as much as we do. It’s also great to see all of the Scooby merchandise from over the years. 10 out of 10

Get the Picture is kind of neat, if only because it’s cool to see a
pro draw the gang. I’m also pretty sure this was on another set as
well. 7 out of 10.

Disc 3: Funky Fashion: Great if you like fashion, I don’t so. 4 out of 10.

America Loves Scooby-Doo Music Video: I always thought these songs and video’s were kind of lame but if you dig them your glad it’s here. 3 out of 10.

Disc 4: Scooby-Doo Street Smarts: Not a great title considering it’s
just man on the street type interviews with people talking about why
they liked the show and characters growing up. Kind of nice. 5 out of 10.

Take the Scooby-Doo Challenge: Trivia! And who doesn’t like trivia? 8 out of 10.

Disc 7: Hanna-Barbera: from H to B: a great little documentary about
one of the greatest animation studios ever! One of the best features
by far. It would be GREAT to have a full length documentary released *hint
hint* Warner Bros. 10 of 10.

Disc 8: Scooby-Doo, the Whole World Loves You! Ain’t that the truth!
It’s sad seeing Dwayne Mcduffie here after his tragic passing, we miss
you Dwayne! This is a wonderful little bit with mostly behind the scenes folks
talking about the franchise and why they love it. It’s a lot like the
street smarts feature just with people you’ve seen before, or at the
very least you’ve seen their names before. The only truly new feature
also. 9 out of 10.

The Eerie Mystery of Scooby History: The story of Scooby, from
mystery’s 5 all the way up to “Where are you” as told by historians
and those that created it. 10 of 10.

The Scooby Gang In Their Own Words: The simple fact that Frank Welker,
Casey Kasem, and Don Messick are featured makes this sheer nirvana for
me. The original voices talk about how they got their jobs and how they
chose their voices. 10 out of 10.

So while most of the features on the “bonus disc” are not new, 1 out
of 3 is new for those keeping score, they do all fit in well and
belong. I do wish the bonus disc had more though, even with the new feature I
don’t think any of them are over 30 minutes long, they could have
easily threw a photo gallery or some old interview on here. But all of
that said I still have to give the features 9 out of 10.

Overall this is a masterfully built set with great packaging, amazing
bonus features, and as of yet unsurpassed content.
A few little things aside, if you have the extra cash and your a fan
of the series or franchise, and you didn’t throw down the dough on the
first set’s, you need to but this!
9.5 out of 10.
