A Scooby-Doo Reboot Is On The Way

ScoobyDooReboot

According to Deadline, Warner Bros has hired Randall Green to write a Scooby-Doo reboot. This seems unrelated to that animated film that was announced almost a year ago, even though original producer Charles Roven is still attached to produce.  Unfortunately, those are the only details given at the moment.

While there’s a chance this and the animated movie are one and the same, that seems unlikely. The Deadline article specifically says that Warner Brothers is starting from scratch. And while the article doesn’t say one way or the other, it leads me to believe it will be live action, and I’m okay with that. Why? Because I think there’s a chance it can be done right this time around. CGI has come a long way since the 2002 film. I have never liked CGI Scooby in those movies. But they can easily pull him off now. There’s also the question of who they’re making this for. Are they going for the younger crowd, or are they going a little bit darker? I would prefer a more darker tone{ala Zombie Island} mainly because I don’t want to see another Scooby-Doo movie that’s all fart jokes again, but that’s just me.

So what do you guys think? And who would you cast as the gang?

  1. Screw CGI! If Mister Ed could be played by a real horse, Scooby can be played by a real great dane.

  2. They could use a real great dane for most scenes and only use CGI when Scooby does something cartoony thus saving themselves a lot of money in animation costs.

  3. Yay! Oh I've been waiting for something like this! I hope it's even more clever and reinventive than the first two. After SD:MI I've been waiting for something really fresh and new. I sort of hope that this is a seperate project from the animated cinematic film we heard about before, but something tells me the project has just been updated to a different media form. Anyway, I'm praying for a good one! Haha
    Hope you're all well.

  5. All I ask is that they are teenagers this time around and that it's the 60's. We've seen a parody, a modern day reboot, so I think the time is right to give us something closer to the original.

Scooby should look much better this time around, CGI has improved tremendously over the years. I'm hoping that they mostly make him look like his cartoon self. The last time they tried to make him look too "real" and it didn't look that much like him.

So long as they don't pander to kids this time it will be streets ahead in comparison to the last two theatrical movies (Which age worse and worse every time I see them. Even as a kid I knew I was being talked down to with the fart jokes).
