With it being the 45th anniversary of Scooby today, I’d thought I’d share my top ten Scooby movies. If you want to see my Top 5 Scooby series, check out this week’s Question of the Week.

10. Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed

Top10_10
Monsters Unleashed makes the Top 10 not because it’s the best of the franchise, but because it’s nice to see the classic villains in live action. Plus there’s Mathew Lillard’s spot-on performance as Shaggy.

9/ Scooby-Doo! in Where’s My Mummy?

Top10_09
Where’s My Mummy? Is arguably the best of the What’s New Scooby-Doo era movies. It’s Egyptian themed setting was a nice change of pace. And having a member of the gang being the villain in the end was a great plot twist.

8/ Scooby-Doo! The Mystery Begins

Top10_08
Who knew a live action made-for-tv Scooby movie would be any good? Like many, I was a bit hesitant about The Mystery Begins when it was first announced{mainly because it’s hard to pull off a CGI dog on a TV budget}. What we got was a pretty decent origin story for the gang. It’s unfortunate we didn’t get any more movies with this cast.

7.  Scooby-Doo! Camp Scare

Top10_07
While it lost some of it’s darker tone than it’s predecessor, Camp Scare is still a fun adventure with some memorable villains.

6. Scooby-Doo! Frankencreepy

Top10_06
A recent addition to the list, Frankencreepy offers everything I want from a Scooby movie. A spooky tone, humor, and it build off of one of the classic monsters in a interesting way. Not to mention that amazing plot twist with the classic villains.

5. Scooby-Doo! and the Witch’s Ghost

Top10_05
While not quite as good as Zombie Island, Witch’s Ghost gets point for it’s darker tone and being genuinely scary at times. Plus, it introduced us to The Hex Girls.

4.  Scooby-Doo! Abracadabra-Doo

Top10_04
I’ve been pretty open on other Scooby sites that I don’t care much for the WNSD-era movies. I felt they relied too much on humor and focused too much on Shaggy and Scooby in some of them. Abracadbra-Doo brought the movies back to more classic Scooby. More mystery solving and scary villains. It also introduced that awesome retro style of animation.

3. Scooby-Doo and the Cyber Chase

Top10_03
I admit, I’m a bit bias towards this one. As a gamer, I like the idea of Scooby and the gang getting stuck in a video game world. It also had a pretty fun video game tie-in too.

2. Scooby-Doo and the Alien Invaders

Top10_02
As a huge sci-fi fan, this one especially appeals to me. I don’t think aliens are used enough as a villain in Scooby-Doo. And Shaggy and Scooby finally get love interests for once.

1. Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island

Top10_01
Not only did Zombie Island put new life into the franchise, it introduced a much darker tone, real monsters, and tried to be actually scary. It features just the right amount of humor and scares. Zombie Island probably comes closest to capturing the feel of the original series.

So what do you think? Do you agree with my list? Post in the comments below!

  1. I agree with your list, SpiderScooby. Also close to mine, though I'm more in favour of the latest DTVs, but still, nothing beats Zombie Island.
