Scooby-Doo! Team-Up #4 Review

Is Titans Tower haunted?! Could there be more to the thumps in the night than a series of “ghostly” pranks by Beast Boy and Cyborg? Robin has called in some experts to solve the mystery – if Scooby, Shaggy, Cyborg, and Beast Boy ever stop chowing down on pizza and start looking for clues, that is!

As a big fan of DC Comics, Teen Titans is something that has never appealed to me. I have never seen the animated series from the early 2000’s, nor have I watched Teen Titans GO!, which this issue is apparently based on. So this issue was about on par with what I was expecting. I didn’t hate it. There were some good moments sprinkled throughout, but I felt it dragged in places. The first half of the issue sees Mystery Inc being called upon to stop some ghouls who are haunting Titan Tower. It’s later revealed to be Cyborg and Beast Boy pulling a prank. Then we have Raven’s “irritating” uncle Myron show up, This is where I started losing interest. The only thing that saved the second half for me was the reveal that Myron is revealed just to be another real estate agent{from the Underworld!}, As much as I didn’t like this latter half, I am glad they didn’t drag the Beast Boy and Cyborg plot out for the entire issue, especially  since this is the worst version of Cyborg I have seen{more the fault of Teen Titans than this issue of course}.

I did like Fred and Daph’s comments about how Robin doesn’t sound like Shaggy anymore.

A few words about the artwork. While I did enjoy the interior artwork{Scooby mixed with the bright colors of Teen Titans works for me}, the cover is terrible. It’s overly crowded. In fact, it’s like they had to shrink the logo, just to fit all the characters on there.

I might have enjoyed this issue more if I liked Teen Titans. But I prefer my superheroes more serious like “Young Justice” and less comedic. I tried not to be too hard on the issue because of that. But overall, I just wasn’t that excited about it. 2.5/5.

  1. That was quick!

Yeah, it was going to be a distaster no matter what. That doesn't mean it could not have been fun, but you're either going to succeed or fail. And I think it may have failed a little bit. I hope the series picks (back) up with #5.
