Update: Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright Offically Announced

18

Warner Bros. Home Entertainment has offically announced the release of Scooby-Doo! Stage Fright. The DVD and Blu-ray Combo Pack will be released on August 20th. No techincal specs or special features have been announced yet. But if this follows the pattern of previous Scooby releases, Stage Fright will likely get a early VOD release.

Join Scooby-Doo, Shaggy and the Mystery Inc. crew as they head to Chicago for a talent show, a few museum tours and a whole lot of pizza. The windy city is home to the hit TV show, Talent Star, in which songwriting duo Fred and Daphne are finalists with high hopes. Not to be left out, Scooby and Shaggy have a secret act in the works, which they’re betting will take the contest by storm. Unlucky for all involved, the competition becomes frightful as the show is being broadcast from an opera house with a history of horrors and a particularly vengeful phantom that has cursed the show’s production.

Update: According to the offical press release{via Toozone}, Stage Fright will come with two bonus episodes: Don’t Fool With A Phantom and Never Ape A Ape Man. Here’s the hi-res artwork for the DVD and Blu-ray as well.

  1. Awesome! Let me just note this... They say at SDNC that the new puppet movie ("Scooby-Doo! Adventures: The mystery Map") will be released July 23rd, but no word for this from WB.
I am guessing the special features will be 3 themed episodes. I'm guessing "The Backstage Rage", "In Fear of the Phantom" and possibly another Scrappy episode with theatres and stuff. Maybe "A Fright at the Opera", or "Backstage Scooby"?

  3. I can almost guess the plot from this description:

Daphne is in love with Fred, he's clueless, she worries over telling him and whether or not he feels the same. Phantom kidnaps her, Fred must show his love and get her back.

Shag and Scoob's act has to do with eating or magic, or maybe something to do with the motorcycle act from 'Big Top'. Velma ends up being the surprise winner, either because she has to enter as well to cover more bases in the case, or because she was also a secret competitor.

Don't know how this will be, good or bad. Will still see it, if only for the Phantom of the Opera references (he looks like a cross between Lon Chaney's Phantom and Nosferatu), and the opera house. The singing is gonna be painful enough, I can already tell. Hope I'm wrong, but I don't think I am this time, for a change.

  4. Another singing one? I like the idea of a new movie, I just don't think the whole singing in it is going to be good. MOTV was OK, but another music one?

Other than that, I think the new movie's gonna be great

  5. This doesn't show much promise to me. Sappy "love" story between characters whose relationship has grown beyond tiresome, Phantom of the Opera rip-off, stale plot elements.

  6. I agree with 13th Ghost, the romantic premise seems stale, and the plot is tired and predictable. But I think I'll still enjoy the POTO references, regardless of the romance. Plus, good opportunity to drool over opera houses in animation; there are not nearly enough.

  7. So the Junior Novel for SD!FN just released its book cover design:

By the looks of this, Shag and Scoob are going to be singing as well. I'm a touch concerned over their outfits, though. Leather vests and bandannas... hopefully they aren't trying to emulate Kid Rock... *crickets*

  12. Sooooo... has anyone seen this yet? It's available on the ITunes. If so, how was it? Anything new, special, horrendous, mediocre, could have been done/executed in a better way, improvements, surprises, what?
