Scooby-Doo Is Heading Back To The Big Screen In 2018!

For the past couple years we’ve heard rumblings of Warner Bros. working on a big screen reboot of Scooby-Doo. Now we have new details on the movie thanks to Variety.

The animated feature will be released on September 21st, 2018 and will be produced by Charles Roven and Richard Suckle, who produced the previous two theatrical outings. Mystery Incorporated helmer Tony Cervone will direct, with a script by Matt Lieberman (“Dr. Dolittle: Tail to the Chief”. Dan Povenmire (“Family Guy”) will serve as executive producer.

“Like countless fans, I have always loved the Hanna-Barbera cast of characters,” said Greg Silverman, Warner Bros.’ president of creative development and worldwide production. “As one of their most famous brand ambassadors, Scooby-Doo will take the lead in reintroducing this pantheon of enduringly popular animated stars on a grand scale with an exciting new movie.”

In addition, WB is hoping to use this movie as a launching point for a big screen Hanna-Barbera universe according to Justin Kroll at Variety.

This makes a lot of sense. We know WB has been working on new Flintstones and Jetsons movies. They could do a Laff-A-Lympics style movie if they wanted to cross them over.

Are you looking forward to the Scooby-Doo reboot? And what do you think of the possibility of a Hanna-Barbera big-screen universe?

Will the usual voice cast play the gang?

They only said Scooby would be a reintroduction for HB on the big screen, they didn't explicitly say it was the beginning of a cinematic universe. Obviously, the crossovers came much later in HB's own attempt to connect their shows (at least when it came to Scooby). Doing it from scratch would work better, but only if it there was an actual attempt to properly fit them together. We don't want some on a whim connected universe. Connecting it for the sake of it isn't the way to go.
