I think it’s safe to say I loved this movie. I think my biggest peeve with the previous few movies is that they were not spooky enough{which is how I like my Scooby}. Frankencreepy, with it’s Frankenstien-inspired plot, makes up for that. The gang being “cursed” was fun. Fred being obsessed with the Mystery Machine blowing up got old real fast, but I liked that the explosion got worse each time. Now there has been some controversy over Daphne getting fat. The whole thing is overblown in my opinion. In fact, Fred says something along the lines of he doesn’t care what Daphne looks like. So wouldn’t that be sending a positive message that it doesn’t matter what you look like? I certainly don’t think it was fat shaming.

And here we have one of the better Scooby-Doo endings. Having classic villains trying to get revenge on Mystery Inc was smart. Sure we got something similar in Monsters Unleashed, but here it was better done.  And the geek at the end credits pointing out the animation mistakes was hilarious!

The one thing I did not like was the quick cuts between scenes. That got old real fast. It felt like the movie had ADHD or something.

Overall, Frankencreepy is very enjoyable. Its plot, humor, and twist ending make it one of the best Scooby movies in years. 5/5.

  1. I had a couple of problems with it, but for now I'll just say that the quick cuts did spoil it.

  2. Didn't really mind the fast scenes, except for the Transylvania ones (vampires and bats) and the one where Daphne imagines all her style things (hair drier etc) thrown in the trash bin cause the villagers lived in older times. These two had an awfully short time in-between.

  3. Who are the classic villains seeking revenge in this Hound of the Baskervilles-style movie?

  4. The whole thing seemed like somebody at Warner's said "we've already spent the year's budget on the WWE one, let's scrape something together"., slapdash. No famous guest voice, though animation voiceover fave Deiderich Bader playing Ms Vanders was a fun casting choice. I especially disliked the chase scene because the entire style of characterization and animation was temporarily replaced with a style similar to the recent, awful Powerpuff Girls reboot. I think more people are upset at Daphne's *own reaction* to her weightier figure, as though her appearance was her sole quality, that her looks were her life's most important thing to lose.

  5. Just watching this now, for 3rd time, and did anyone else notice where Fred exclaims "Damn it!" ? (It's at 41:23, where once again Fred remembers his destroyed Mystery Machine.)
A swear in a Scooby Doo! Will parents notice & freak?

  6. I found the movie really strange. At first, I loved the quick montages of images, they were quick and witty and I found them really funny. However, as the movie went on, I found that these montages, along with the awkward pauses were too over used. I also didn't like that the gang didn't do a lot of sleuthing. Daphne at one point was in the mine, but she didn't really find any clues. The gang quickly got carried away with their obsessions and didn't really solve the mystery. By the end of the movie, the unmasking scene, it was required that Velma explain everything. I prefer that the movie takes us on the journey, giving us clues about who the bad guy is, and then we can also try and figure it out. That's just me however, I think if the movie continued to reinvent Scooby as it did in the first few scenes, I would have liked it more. I still really enjoyed it overall, it just lacked depth for me, personally.

  7. I agree that the plot twists as well the fresh idea to put the gang under a curse that flipped their personalities was good. However the complete disregard for even one bit georgraphical or cultural accuracy was appalling. Along with the bad clash of time periods that was just confusing. On top of that the amount of masoginist, sexist, racist, and stereotypical 20th century subtext and undertones are horrible. This movie is not something you should show your kids and as Scooby-Doo fan from early childhood this movie is a disgrace to the Scooby Doo brand and American culture.
