Review: SD:MI “Nightfright”

12

Just finished watching tonight’s episode of Scooby-Doo! Mystery Inc. This is one I’ve been waiting for for quite awhile. I’ve been waiting for Van Ghoul to show up ever since he was mentioned in the first episode. That being said, this was a pretty good episode. Basically, Shaggy and Scooby win a contest to have dinner with Vincent Van Ghoul, but turns out to be a trick for Van Ghoul’s new reality show. But a creature called Nightfright is ruining Van Ghoul’s fun. The idea of Van Ghoul having a reality show is really funny. I wasn’t too impressed with the guy under the mask, but Nightfright is a cool villian. It’s also nice to see the old Velma here when she find a way into the house. A Velma that’s more smart than “oh, he dumped me for a dog”.

The guy they got to voice Van Ghoul in this show does a great job. He doesn’t sound exactly like Vincent Price, but he’s close{I believe he has done Vincent Price in other shows before. My only problem with Van Ghoul here, is that they turned him into a bit of a wimp. I’m not too bothered by it, because it is kinda funny. But there were one too many tinkle jokes for my taste.

Overall, a pretty fun episode. I do hope they use Van Ghoul in a episode again, because he is one of my favorite Scooby characters. 8/10.

  1. This wasn't my favorite episode, but that's probably because I never really watched 13 Ghosts when I was a kid. (I tried to get into it, but the thought of the ghosts being real scared me! Plus I always hated the fact that there was no Fred or Velma and I despised Scrappy...so it kind of ruined that show for me.)

That being said, I thought it was funny and a nice tribute to Vincent Price. Too much "tinckling" or "tingling" or whatever Vincent had to do. It was also nice that Shaggy and Scooby got to be the main characters in this episode. That's one thing I like about SD:MI-- it gives each of the characters a chance to shine in different ways and different episodes because some episodes focus more on certain characters.

Nightfright was kind of obviously fake. But he had a fun backstory. And I liked the end when Daphne finally got fed. Normally Shaggy and Scooby are the hungry ones!

    You were warned!

Fred running away was very shocking, shag going to military school is very sad for him, and poor scooby! :'(

This episode proves what I said, this show has the legs to last for a few years!

When season 2 starts, I can't wait for scooby to get his gang back together and gets his revenge on paricles.

Don't drop the ball, again, CN, get season 2 to us in a timely fashion.

  4. Season 2 could air in the fall{or knowing CN, maybe in the spring}. At the rate they're releasing the four episode volumes, I'd expect at least a Season 1 - Part One DVD possibly by the end of the year.

  6. Could this be the best scooby show? As I've said, with each new episode I'm closer to saying yes.

    26 was a great episode.
When a season set is released on blu-ray(please!) we'll be able to see the detail of this show and I can't wait for that day to come. 🙂

  7. I'm very impressed with the finale, this entire show just blows me away with how good it is. I was really surprised about a few of those things, and interestingly this means that Fred Jones isn't really his name at all.

    I'm really hoping for a blu-ray release.

  8. Kidnapping, torture/murder, and black mail make this the scooby show I have waited 12 years for!

  9. OMG! I'm shocked with Professor Pericles's eye being opened at the floor, with blood. That was way too shocking even for adults! It was an amazing and scary episode. But way toooo much for kids. I loved! But, a PG13 warning should be the right thing for this.

  10. Just watched the Finale!!!! WOAH! Great episode! Thrilling and scary and dark! Great Cliffhanger! Can't wait for next season already!!!!

But my only 1 complaint? The animation. SO weak. It was visably bad throughout the whole episode. Daphne's face, Fred's Body, Shaggy and Velma looked weird at times. Scooby was well done. The Freak looked strange. And their hair would always look weird, especially Daphne's in the wind.
