This Question of the Week is a bit late as I’ve been busy the past few weeks. Anyways, let’s get into it. If Warner Bros. were to release a new Scooby Doo movie in theatres, should they release it in 3D? 3D has been pretty popular as of late. However, would a Scooby Doo movie benefit from 3D? What are your thoughts?

  1. While I find 3D to be a gimmick I wouldn't mind the option. And recent 3D releases show that it can be impressive.

Whether or not it would benefit from 3D is hard to predetermine. 3D used in movies like Avatar and Coraline really show how 3D can enhance the experience. I think if the movie were animated than yes 3D could enhance the experience (The 3D in Coraline was used to extend perspective and pull you into that world and in the case of an animated Scooby Doo movie this would add depth), but in live action it would be pointless. Avatat 3D worked because it had the visuals to back it up (The 3D depth helped draw you into the scifi settings), but a live action Scooby film would not be on par in this respect and thus using a 3D effect would just be a waste.

  2. No. 3D, in my opinion, should only be used for animated films (thus pushing out any live-action SD movie), Avatar being the exception because more than half the movie is computer generated imagery. 3D will only work if it's not just slapped on for more money at the box office, and if the animators and visual effects artists realize that throwing things at the screen doesn't make up the entirety of a 3D movie. In films like How to Train Your Dragon and Megamind, both of which have spectacular flying scenes and scenes with large expanses of crowds, 3D works wonders. But I get the feeling that with Scooby, the only 3D aspect would be Scooby digging through something and the objects he throws behind him being thrown at the viewer instead. So my answer is no.

  3. I'm gonna have to go with yes because if you re-release all of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies in 3D, chances are that the monster scenes will have a very huge impact upon the audience. I mean, for the 10th anniversary of the first live-action Scooby-Doo next year, I'd pay to see it in 3D to be honest, and so will the rest of the live-action Scooby-Doo movies. That is, if you really think about it like that in a way.

  4. Oh... you mean the kind of 3-D that "pops out" at you.

Hmm... well, no. I think that would be lame. They would probably focus more on the special effects and the storyline would suffer for it.

  5. No!
3D is a stupid gimmick, it was in the 50's and it still is today.
It's just an excuse to charge a few extra bucks to already over inflated ticket prices.

  7. GUYS!

There's a NEW Scooby movie about to be released! It was made in secret by Warner. "Scooby Doo - Music Vampire". I have seen almost the entire movie, It's kind of a "girls movie" of Scooby Doo. Like the last one was very "boys movie", with dinossaurs and action, this one is reaaally romantic, with vampires and sexy scenes. There's a lot of "Twilight" in it, but classic elements and names like "Van Helsing" also.

Daphne for the first time in the new style movies, is wonderfully animated (and so is the others). And she has a very important role since "Zombie Island". She has a love interest: a vampire, veeery "Twilight" (or "Dusk", like in "MI"). [SPOILER] She even gets "married" (LOL scene, Velma crying, very funny). [END OF SPOILER] The colors and style are more like "Abracadabra Doo" then "Camp Scare" or "Legend of the Phantosaur". The animation is REALLY nice, sometimes we can even see "Full Animated" scenes of Daphne and Velma (24 frames per second).
    Anyway, great movie.

  13. No! There's nothing to do with the "What's New Scooby Doo" episode! Nothing like it. [SPOILER] The Daphne marriage it's because the vampire wants her to be his "Vampire Queen", so she's "kidnaped" (actually, she likes him) by him. [END] Fred talks a LOT about traps, just like in "Mystery Incorporated", kinda boring and stupid. And the movie is not that great compared with the others (specially Camp Scare, my favorite), but as I said: the animation is awesome!

I can't say more, there's no link on the web, duh! I said, "IN SECRET by Warner", why would they put something on the web if it's a SECRET!? I saw the movie in Mexico, working on the spanish dubbed version of it. You can say whatever you want, when the movie comes out I will say: I told you so!

  14. Ilma I don't think anyone is trying to call you a liar or anything, I think everyone's just being cautious. Regardless they seem to release a new movie every year, so whether its what you described or not we know one is coming.

I don't like the idea of vampires, I hate when cartoons believe they have to emulate current trends for a buck, it's shameless in a way. It would be nice if they'd strive to be a little more original.

  15. No way, there's nothing to do with "Twilight" except for ONE scene, it's still "Scooby Doo!", I only talked about "Twilight" because of the "romance-vampire-thingy". But, OBVIOUSLY, it's a way to have some money based on it.

"Regardless they seem to release a new movie every year, so whether its what you described or not we know one is coming."

Yes, every YEAR. There's already "Phantosaur" in 2011. And they always talk about the movie in the "pre-production", and this one, is ALREADY done. The entire movie. And with great quality. It's kinda strange.

The point is that Scooby is cashing in on the vampire craze, which is the result of the popularity of Twilight. One of the things that I didn't like about Abracadabra Doo was that it was obviously cashing in on the Harry Potter mania. After 40+ years of being on the air I would hope that Scooby wouldn't waste time copying the latest trends (Because trends fade away and the result will be a trend movie that's extremely dated because it centered on that trend).

  17. Once again, I agree with Strangely. Some say this was the problem with 13GSD, cashing in on Ghostbusters. I don't really think that, but it's possible I supose.

I think it would be better to have a SD movie that brings in a new concept of some kind. Or at least a classic concept that isn't being done anywhere else in the movie industry. I don't think they could go wrong with just having an old fashioned mystery that is so complex and involved that it takes 1½ to 2 hours to present it.

So it's a musical as well? ... I'm not sure how I feel about that. I guess as long as it isn't corny.

  18. This new musical SD DTV is now available for pre-order on Amazon.

    http://www.amazon.com/Scooby-Vampire-Blu-ray-UltraViolet-Digital/dp/B006GQQL6E/ref=sr_1_17?s=movies-tv&ie=UTF8&qid=1322848776&sr=1-17

I don't like the look of this, I'll be honest. I just can't imagine anything where the gang sings throughout the film to be all that good. Look at SD & the Goblin King! The singing in that was unnecessary and annoying. But I'll reserve judgement until it is released. In the meantime, I'll continue to wait for 'Un Monstre a Paris' to be released in the US.
