3 Scooby Products I Would Like To See
Friday, March 8th, 2013Note: I did a article similar to this back in the day, but I’ve decided to update it and expand it a bit to include not just DVDs.
.Sure, there has been a lot of Scooby products released over the years, some good, some bad. But quite frankly, there some things we haven’t gotten. Many unreleased episodes and music for example. Here are three Scooby products I would like to see.
1. Season Sets of Scooby and Scrappy Doo.
Sure, 13 Ghosts and a few random episodes of Scooby and Scrappy Doo are out on DVD, but when are we going to get them in season sets? These “13 Spooky Tales” DVDs have been pretty good, but I’m sure I speak for most fans when I say we would much prefer whole seasons to be released.
2. A new soundtrack.
Scooby-Doo’s Snack Tracks was a fantastic CD, but it was missing a few things, most notably from Scooby and Scrappy Doo and A Pup Named Scooby-Doo. I would like to see something more definitive released. I would also love to see a SD:MI related soundtrack.
3. More Action Figures.
Back in the early 2000′s, we got figures based not only on the Scooby gang, but classic villains as well. I would love to see a new line released that features some more classic villains{Spooky Space Kook anyone?}.
So what do you think? Is there anything you would like to see? Post in the comments below!
Scooby Doo 2010 Year In Review
Monday, January 17th, 2011Better late than never, here’s a look back at the last year of Scooby. Yes, it’s been a pretty great year for Scooby and the gang, with a new TV series, two great Direct To DVD movies, and one so-so TV movie.
Let’s start with Scooby Doo: Abracadabra-Doo. Up untill this movie, I didn’t think the DTV movies had been all that great for awhile. I didn’t really like Samurai Sword or Goblin King that much. Needless to say I was quickly losing interest in them. Luckily, that all changed with Abracadabra-Doo, bringing Scooby back to what made it good in the first place while featuring some fantastic animation.
And then we got Scooby Doo! Mystery Incorporated. We heard about SD:MI all the way back when The Mystery Begins was announced, and while it took almost two years to actually air, it was well worth the wait. Yeah, some things need to be fixed{cough “Velma” cough}, but I still believe this is the best Scooby series in a long while. It’s still the same old Scooby, just with a overarching storyline. And finally, we get some sense of continuity in Scooby Doo.
And then there’s Scooby Doo! Camp Scare. I can only say the same things about Camp Scare as I can with Abracadabra-Doo. A classic Scooby mystery with great animation. And I think one of the cooler Scooby Doo Villians in a while.
And finally, we have Scooby Doo! Curse of the Lake Monster. I had high hopes for this one, but ultimately left disappointed. A predictable mystery and not enough Scooby. Oh well, here’s hoping Scooby 3 will be better!
2011 Predictions
What will happen to Scooby in 2011? Well, here’s some things I think we might see.
-
Scooby and Scrappy Doo on DVD: Warners seems to be releasing a Scooby series a year, and there’s not that many series left{Get A Clue doesn’t seem to be getting a release any time soon and I think they’ll stick to the volumes with Laff-A-Lympics}. I suspect we’ll see some type of release for Scrappy Doo in 2011, either through Warner’s “Warner Archives” service or through regular DVD.
-
Season 2 of SD:MI: Depending on how fast Cartoon Network airs the rest of the season, we could possibly see Season 2 of Mystery Incorporated by the fall.
-
Scooby 3: I predict that we’ll see a third live action TV movie, but it will drop even more in ratings than the second one did.
So yeah, it’s been a pretty good year. What was your favorite Scooby related thing from last year? Leave your thoughts below!
Should Real Monsters Be Used In Scooby Doo?
Thursday, December 16th, 2010So I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately. And one thing that’s been popping into my head lately is the use of real monsters in Scooby Doo. I’ve seen many people online say they don’t like when Scooby goes the supernatural route. A viewpoint I personally don’t agree with, but one I can completely understand. After all, the original concept of Scooby Doo, Where Are You! was that it was always a bad guy in a mask, that ghosts, demons, and aliens did not exist in the real world{though somehow they had a talking dog}. I also don’t think it has always worked for the show. Just take a look at the later Scrappy Doo episodes. Those episodes were pretty terrible. There is also Scooby Doo and the Goblin King and Scooby Doo and the Samuri Sword, which I thought weren’t terrible, but pretty mediocre.
On the other hand, with so many episodes and movies, there is always a need to keep the franchise fresh and new. And when done correctly{say “Scooby Doo On Zombie Island“}, it can be great. In fact I think real monsters are needed to keep things fresh and interesting. Even though I’m sure most of us can agree that Scrappy is one of the worst Scooby Doo characters ever created, I’m kinda glad they introduced him. Had it continued on the same path as Where Are You! and The Scooby Doo Show, it probably would have become stale, something I think happened with the Direct To DVD movies. With Scooby Doo and the Legend of the Vampire, they went back to using the bad guy in a mask forumla, and they weren’t very well written or all that great in my opinion.
Bottom line? I think real monsters should be used in Scooby Doo, if done correctly of course, and they don’t overuse them.
So what do you think? Is using real monsters a good idea? Or should they be shoved under the bed?
Scooby Stuff I’d Like To See On DVD
Tuesday, December 15th, 20093. Scooby Doo and Scrappy Doo

Whether you like or {probably} hate him, Scrappy Doo certainly has become the most hated character in the Scooby Doo universe. And while these episodes were not the greatest, it would still be nice to see these.
2. The 13 Ghosts of Scooby Doo

This was one of the weaker Scooby Doo series, but it certainly had an interesting premise. Scooby and Shaggy unwittingly open the Chest of Demons, unleashing thirteen of the most terifying ghosts on the face of the earth. The ghosts can only be returned to the chest by those who originally set them free. Aided by Vincent Van Ghoul{voiced by Vincent Price}, Mystery, Inc embark on a worldwide quest to recapture them before they wreak irreversible havoc upon the world.
1. The New Scooby Doo Mysteries

This is, in my opinion, the best of the Scrappy Doo series. This, like 13 Ghosts, only featured Scooby, Shaggy, Daphne, and Scrappy{though Fred and Velma would make a apperance in one episode}. This series also has the best Scooby christmas episode to date “A Nutcracker Scoob”{which has been released on DVD}.
Honerable Mentions
The Scooby Doo Project

During a Scooby Doo marathon in 2001, Cartoon Network aired a nine minute special called The Scooby Doo Project, basicly a parody of the Blair Witch Project. While this certainly doesn’t deserve a DVD on it’s own, it would be cool to see it as a extra.
Scooby Doo 2 on Blu-Ray

While it is already out on DVD, it would be nice to see Scooby Doo 2 make it to Blu-Ray, considering the first Scooby movie is already out and Scooby 3 is also coming out on Blu-Ray.
Shaggy and Scooby Doo: Get A Clue

You can call this a dishonerable mention if you want. From it’s terrible theme song{see below} to it’s HORRIBLE animation, this is the worst Scooby series to date{yes, even worse than Scrappy}. You’re probably asking why I would want this on DVD. simple. WB has so far released two volumes of Get A Clue! and haven’t released anything new for over a year. And if there’s one thing I hate more than this series is when studios start releasing TV shows on DVD and then stop{see Disney’s animated shows like Gargoyles and Ducktales}.
